OVERVIEW: Initial Court Movement Knowledge Test
, here are your tests.
Incoming Ball Types
Example: You get a high deep floater to your forehand, is this a rally, defensive, or attacking footwork type?
A player must learn to "read" an incoming ball. How you react with outsteps will be dependent on the location and characteristics of the incoming ball in relation to the baseline (footwork zones).
Out-Steps
Example: A deep heavy incoming ball requires what footwork style?
There are 14 types of footwork that may be used alone or in combination...allowing a player to move out to the incoming ball most efficiently.
Contact Moves
Example: Use a step down pivot contact move with this approaching ball:
Players set up into one of 6 hitting stances (example: closed, open, semi-open) and then perform 1 of 15 unique athletic moves through contact. These contact moves are dependent on whether the incoming ball is a rally, attacking, or defensive shot.
Stance
Example: Use a backfoot hitting stance with:
(refer to above contact moves)
Balance Moves
Example: A low spin contact move uses which balance move?
Contact moves may also include a balance move...using your knee, leg, foot, or feet to help balance you as contact is made. You will utilize each balance move based on where you plan on hitting your ball (cross-court, down the middle, down the line)
Recovery Steps
Example: Recovery step for a closed pivot contact move is:
These steps include both brake (brake step, bounce step, and slides) and recovery (steps taken to move back to midline of the opponentsʼ angle of play).
Split Steps
Example: I make the decision on ball direction when I'm still in the air
